Diversity & Inclusion Focused Curriculum

Aside from exposing students to the research topics and methods of the various disciplines, our curriculum will engage students and faculty in conversations and concepts that are important to responsible citizens of contemporary society.

General Education

Several General Education courses being taught in Fall 2020Spring 2020, and Fall 2019 all intentionally engage with the idea of diversity. The definition, context, and relevant content will change from course to course, but in each one students will discuss diversity as it is understood in that discipline and consider how those ideas can be applied outside the classroom. See the college catalog for the official course descriptions and for the General Education requirement they fulfill.

Majors and Minors

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (D.E.I.) play a critical role in the classrooms of every major, minor, and academic program on campus.

Our Neuroscience students have used brain imaging techniques to examine how social categories of race and ethnicity are processed, evaluated and incorporated in decision-making. Our Women's and Gender Studies students explore intersectionality as a lens to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our Accounting majors learn how social responsibility is an integral component of becoming a CPA. These are just a few examples of how D.E.I. is incorporated into curriculum, and we are working to do more.

Teaching and Pedagogical Resources for Faculty

We are teaching in the midst of an ongoing pandemic and a historic protest movement that has impacted all members of our community. We welcome your input as we seek to share resources here from across campus. Please email inclusion-group@cofc.edu.
